Novella

Words: 34,503

Cannibals and lions and murder – oh my! Intrepid librarian H. R. Huxtable and his column of misfits are out to save Jepson’s beleaguered British outpost in central Africa—battling rock-strewn rivers, bloody jungle, hungry cannibals, and each other. His toad-witted captains are slaves to drink. The only female member of the expedition is on a personal crusade to stamp out celibacy. And while none of them seem to respect his authority, one of them has gone so far as to ventilate his tent with bullets, which is a bit much. Undaunted, Huxtable perseveres. We Must Save Jepson! is a satirical romp through the Victorian era of exploration and expansion, wherein our hero discovers hitherto unknown depths of character despite the self-satisfied arrogance of his age, and proves that sometimes it does you good to get out of the library (and your tent). Crikey!

Connection. More than social status, more than the latest car, the swankest house, the most prestigious career, or the most “likes” on social media, deep down what we all really want is to connect fully and authentically with the other people in our lives. Trouble is, most of us have spent a lifetime cultivating habits and behaviors that keep us disconnected from others, and even from ourselves. Enter Connect—and just in time. This book offers a road map to reconnection at a time when loneliness in our culture is at an all-time high. Here is the antidote, a step-by-step guide to a more satisfying and meaningful life. Author Mark Ebinger shares personal stories of his own journey to reconnection and shines a light on the truths about human nature that make isolation and disconnection all too easy. And each chapter includes practical exercises you can do to set you on your own path to greater connection, and to keep you on it. Do you crave deeper connection in your life? Connect will show you the way.

This week, we’re speaking to Camilla Stevens, the wildly popular author of steamy romances like The Italian Heir, and Her Icelandic Protector – which have earned her legions of fans and reviews that highlight her “awesome storytelling” and praise her writing as “suspenseful” and “fascinating.” She kindly agreed to sit for an interview to talk to us about her background, inspirations, and the path that led her to publication success. With nearly 20 full-length romances to her name, Camilla Stevens continues to win fans with each new release. She’s particularly well-known for writing BWWM romances – between black women and white men – and this has led to some delicious pairings in her globe-spanning catalog of stories; from sexy Spanish pirates to towering Icelandic mercenaries. We caught up with Camilla (being in the midst of a lockdown made that easier) and here’s what she told us: HG: So, first off,… Read More >
